|
|
As I've just had to remove the extended Input Shaft from an old Gearbox I thought I'd do a step by step guide to show how it's done.
I suppose the process will be the same for all input shafts but it's the Extended Input Shaft that is shown because this is needed when you fit most adaptorplate kits
Input Shaft at bellhousing side
Step 1
Remove circlip from Right hand drive shaft flange.
Step 2
Remove the drive shaft flange.
Step 3
Remove the side cover from gearbox diff casing. You can now see the Input Shaft at the top running into another gear sleave.
Step 4
Remove the circlip on input shaft just where the splines start and enter the other gear cog/sleave.
Step 5
Once the circlip has been removed, the gear cog/sleave can be slid back to clear the inner splines, you can see the input shaft has a threaded end that can now be unscrewed by turning the input shaft anti-clockwise
Step 6
Input shaft is now unscrewed
Step 7
cog/sleave can now be withdrawn from input shaft
Step 8a
Remove the circlip from the input shat
Step 9
The input shaft can now be withdrawn from the Bellhousing side and job done
Hope this might help a few of you out as the manuals are rather vaugue. At least you can see what's involved and it's not really hard to do. Bit messy and smelly though _________________ DARREN

To be honest phil, I think having to change the input shaft is a pain in the arse. Your setup sounds a much better idea and keeps things much more straight forward
I think I'll be making my own little extension to fit the flywheel/crank and bring the needle bearing out to fit the standard input shaft on my next conversion. . . . .Why pull apart a perfectly good gearbox ? It's just more work _________________ DARREN

I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it with the box still fitted _________________ DARREN

Just trying to do this at the moment with a 2ltr box, I've slide the reverse gear fully forward but it seems like I need to lock the back section of the input shaft to unscrew the other bit? Is there away of locking it in position? I turn it anti-clockwise and it just turns forever!
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know there isn't any ways to lock it. Maybe try some menatrating oil on the joint to help free it. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

will do, i'll try moving the reverse gear further forward too - looking at those piccies it looks like I should be able to see more of the other part of the input shaft - but it is a different box.
cheers! |

Did it! Anyone removing the input shaft from a 2 ltr box, I found you had to move the centre diff bit around untill the hole on the diff allows the reverse gear to move along fully - even then on mine it had to pushed up at a bit of an angle to allow it move along enough.
cheers for the help
