Can anyone tell me the spline type & size needed to undo the flywheel to crank bolts with?
I dont want to buy a whole set just to find the right size etc when 1 will do.

I assume you have a dual mass flywheel engine from 2000 - 2002, as all the others use hex head bolts. If so, the spline is not T50 (i.e. a normal torx bit). They are Torx Plus, which is a heavier duty bit.
Torx plus bits can only be made by companies who pay licensing fees to whoever owns the Torx design standards, so are not easy to get. When I bought my set about 6 years ago I had to import a set made by OTC from the US. Nobody more local listed them at all at that time (inclusing Snap On, Beta and Facom). At the opposite end of the tool quality scale, Laser tools now make a set though. It's still the only set I've seen available in the UK. It was featured in Practical Petrformance Car's new products section, listed just as Torx bits. They're not easy to find on Laser's web site. Be very wary of trying to undo large Torx Plus screws with normal Torx bits. You'll notice they are a very sloppy fit. You can easily damage the screw head, making it far harder it remove (guess how I know that).
Torx plus fasteners are also used on the rocker covers of the Phase II n/a Subaru cylinder heads, and various other locations, and I've seen them on late model Porsche transaxles too. Strangely though there are non on my 2006 EZ30 though. _________________ Regards,
