1974 1303 for sale with 80s porsche bodykit.

This beetle started life as a standard 1303 registered at the end of 1973 leaving the factory in alaska blue metalic (the inside of the car is still that colour)

I aquired this beetle in about sept 2005 when it had been sat for a couple of years, but it was still in reasonably solid condition for the age/model.

I then spent several months repairs, doing usual welding to the heater channel bottom plates/front inner wing areas/end of heater channels, at the same time I also replaced a fair few mechanical bits, also replaced a few bits in the past couple of years including the following:

- replaced front metal brake lines nov 05

- Upgraded front brakes to disc brakes (new discs/pads/wheelbearings) nov 05

- replaced front shock absorbers nov 05

- reset rear suspension to stock height and fitted urethene torsion bar bushes/end caps oct 05

- drivers side window winder mechanism summer 07

- Gear shift rod front bush replace - common gear change problem not being able to get gears

- Urethene gear shift rod coupling - also has a short shift kit so nice solid notchy gear changes, no stirring treacle!



I fitted a set of mk1 golf bucket seats which all seem to work and move ok (last time I check) could prob do with a bit of a clean, has the usual wear to drivers bolster, I find them quite comfy though!

during 2006 I managed to get hold of a rarely seen `Turbo` bodykit, these were mostly seen in the 80s and you dont see them about anymore, with a plan to build a turbo engine and have a different looking beetle, I cut the bumpers into sections and reworked them a little so the fronts 5" shorter with a scoop in the middle (where you could mount an oil cooler or similar) rear bumpers about 2" shorter, all fibreglassed back together, wizard running boards I also reworked to go with this kit, I think it looks pretty cool and now the wings/bumpers/running boards are fibreglass they wont rust! best of all its all bolted on not bonded so if you got bored and fed up you could easlier change it back to a standard beetle.

Interior consists of black carpets, cream original headliner (I think) mk1 golf front bucket seats, stock rear seats. It has an after market centre console fitted with 7 colour backlit aftermarket gauges (oil pressure/temp) so you can pick a colour to back light your gauges including one colour the same as the car! Has matching voltmeter in the dash, 5" carbon back rev counter with shift light mounted on the dash with white LED back light, I also fitted some white LED backlights to the speedo so it sort of matches.

Sound System wise it has a Volkswagen Gamma headunit with code that illuminated a cool blue and red at night, has 5.25" sony speakers in the footwells and 2 6x9 sony speakers in the rear parcel shelf, also under the parcel shelf theres a 10" sub in a box I used to run, but no amp is included in this sale, they can be picked up cheap enough on ebay though, think all you need to do is get the RCA adaptor for the gamma headunit, RCA lead already runs from the dash to under the rear seat, get an amp and some wire and you can have some bass too!

Wheels are EMPI 8 spoke replicas with centre caps, polished rim and black centre, good set of 4 kumho tyres, 185/60 R15 fronts which were new end of 2005 when I got the car on the road, 205/65 R15 rears which had about 500 miles on when fitted, so they have done about 5000-6000 miles total, plenty of tread left.

Engine wise I ran my 1600 camper engine in up until last year when I got my camper on the road, current unit is a 1500cc Singleport unit I overhauled then, cleaned & checked. I fitted new rings, 009 distributer, Empi accufire electronic ignition, foam and chrome air filter, 4 into 1 twin quiet packs, I then cleaned all the Tinware and painted/colour coded the engine bay. I have done a few hundred miles and it seems cool.

Paint work is ok and has a few blemish/slight cracking on some of the fibreglass panels(see pictures), but this is not a show car and is not being sold for show car money.

Tax runs till end of November 08.

MOT runs till end of Jan 09.

Overall a reasonable car thats solid and ready to drive away. I have too many projects (now including one for the g/f!) so I need to let this go to a good home where it will get used more. It certainly turns heads!

This is NOT a show car, viewing is highly recommended to avoid buying more than you think it is.

Its not fantastic but pretty good and with the design of the bodykit leans towards being good for an engine conversion, I have been thinking maybe a nice 1.8/2.0 golf engine in there, front bumper has plenty of space for a small rad.

I'm looking for about £1000, or make me a sensible offer.
