running problems

hello i have had baywindow with a 2.2 n/a in it now for a few months and its been running great lots of fun,but now it starts like crap sounds as though it missfiring and running on 3 also backfires when you take your foot off the acelerator ,so i thought ide check for engine faults but it seems sweeny tod didnt bother puting one on, the ecu has the following info on it d7 22611 aa670 a11-000ra5 0907.can somebody tell me how to add the led to it please .

Just a thought, have a look on your ecu, does it have round holes on the side? when i peered into one of them there was a little green led! i thought mine didnt have one till someone said have a look there.

Check your cold start wires, then post back.
Blue one (IIRC. The thin one) from starter soloniod to ECU

wahey yes it does have an led inside the ecu but it doesnt seem to have a cold start wire on it ,it allways used to start fine could the lack of the wire be a problem and how do i fit such a wire.just checked the error code and its 5 long flashes and cant seem to find it on the list of error codes thanks for your help

Here's a link to a website with a list of error codes.
Code 50 (long pulses are 10s, short pulses are 1s) doesn't seem to be there, though.

right just been had it running got to temp then rechecked code and it turns out to be code 12 wich after doing a bit of research i think is the cold start (10 out 10 for elusive) so can someone tell me how to connect this wire up many thanks

It's a thin wire from the starter solenoid that should go to the ECU. If a certain three letter company fitted the engine, they are notorious for missing this wire out.
Having it connected is the difference between night and day!

right ive been reading this thread http://vwkd.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3981&highlight=cold+start and ive traced the blue and red wire but can seem to trace the wire from the ignition ive got the dash in bits only wire i can see is the engine light wire is that the one thanks

The wire you need to connect it to....
On the old Veedub loom there's a wire from the Ign Switch that's the sender wire to the starter solenoid - it's the thin one, not the big fat one on the actual starter motor.
This sends 12v to the solenoid when the Ign's in the "Start Position" (Posn III I think)
You need to connect the blue wire to this - it's easy to do at the solenoid

right its official i am a hungover twat that should pay more attention to what i am doing i only bloody connected starter moter to the bloody fuel injecter (what a twat) anyway i have been searching for a wiring diagram for my ecu but cant seem to find one anyone point me in right direction befor i set my van on fire
