If i was to swap the 1.9 petrol engine in a T25 for the 1.6td engine from another T25 would i have to insure it as a modified vehicle because of the engine change or could i just change the V5 and call in a 1.6td and insure it as that?

My insurance company has 1.9 and 2.1 petrol and 1.6d, 1.7d and 1.6td on their books. They can't insure anything else thats not on the books so a 1.9AAZ conversion is out of the question.

I can't afford to run a petrol T25 unless i LPG it so a swap to diesel using a donor vehicle is the cheapest option.

if the van left the factory as a petrol and you fit a diesel it's been modified if you dont tell the insurance have a accident and i bet they will use it as a excuse to not payout!!! if it was me i would change my insurance company and fit what engine i wanted but declare it all

So if i bought a van that was originally a petrol but was converted to diesel by a previous owner (theres a few on ebay at the moment) and i didn't tell the insurance it was originally a petrol van, i could have my insurance invalidated?

A mates got a pair of vans, one originally petrol and solid, the other originally diesel and rotten/damaged. The plan was to put all the running gear from the diesel into the petrol.

insurance companys will always look to get out of paying so anything not declared modified would give them a valid reason

Honesty is the best policy in this case, some mods probally wouldnt make a difference to the premium anyhow

if your insurance co is being funny about mods change to someone who isnt, shop around and remember to state less than your already paying
when they ask have you had a quote already (can be economical with the truth there Wink )

a scooby lump in mine mysteriously is the same as my 1.9 petrol with the same co however i think i got a good deal on the scooby "camper" but not so much on the comercial "panel van"

Hi Matey, Just looking at changing my 1.9 to a 2.2 scooby, who do you insure yours with and was it a nightmare getting the v5 changed etc.

Cheers.
Andy.

Welcome to the forum chap.

V5 is no probs if you send the right stuff all at the same time and they dont lose it!! dont just try blagging it with no evidence of engine change.
I had a bit of a mare as they lost mine

insurance i seem to have to change co each year as they want to hike it the following year. seems that if you ask for a new quote with a new company they almost always beat your renewal or best quote had (cough last paid premium Wink)

certainly helps if you have limited milage i just have two vans one for summer one for winter 6000 miles each comp and breakdown and also helped having my missus as a named driver (not that im ever gonna let her loose in one!!) currently im with hic and glynwoods but just ring round and go with the one that suits ..

Cheers batfink,

I have bit the bullet today and bought myself a 98 2.0 subaru impreza sport, 1000 quid, real nice car (bit too nice to chop up but hey), but i suppose I have the whole car and there is a lot I can use and , or sell on.

Hope it turns out OK, just gotta prep my t25 engine bay now, welding etc and go for it.

Andy
