im after some advice please...
im running 2.25" coilovers all round on my split, not using torsion bars/leaves.
does anyone know what pound springs i will require?
front first....[adjustable shock absorber backed right off]
"i thought !" vehicle weight approx 1600 lb empty -roughly 800lb front/rear split , so....
400lb each side on front?
well...zebedee boing !!!soft mr softy marshmallow.
upgraded to 600lb each side on front-little better but still a bit like a citroen 2cv .
im now spending alot on trial and error in springs.
the thing that worries me is the subaru lump at back will be much heavier and 2.25" springs are only available up to 1000lb !!
any ideas anyone?
many thanks

I thin k I've got the 1000lbs springs and thats on my notch. I'll double check when I get home.
Mines real nice and firm like a young lasses...... _________________ Think......

I've got 900lbs on the rear with no torsion bars as i started with 600lbs and they nearly fully compressed but i'm running a 2.5 07 wrx motor and 915 porsche 5 speed so my drive train is heavy and a bay is slightly heavier than a split, The fronts are 350lbs and they seem fine.
Hope this helps,
Nelly |

thanks for the imput chaps,
spoke to red9 today after they realised i was not after information to copy there design they were very helpful.
it all depends on the distance between the pivot point[bottom inner wishbone pickup]. the longer the arm the more stronger spring you will require. i have a long bottom wishbone[so all the girls say] so that explains it.
need to uprate to possibly 750lb.
some pictures of my wishbones are under suspension and brakes vwkd.
cheers
happy christmas |

Practical Performance Car Mag did a freature on this on how to calculate the requires spring rate. I am not sure when it was I guess about 2 years ago. Kev and Will from the mag are really helpful I am sure they will tell you wich issue it was in. If you let me know I could send you a scanned copy as I have got a full set of all the mags since they started. _________________ VW Camper 1971
