Changing you log book

I still havent changed mine in my bay and should have done it a few months ago, but now the engines in and reliable its time to update it.

I wondered has anyone had any problems when they have changed their log book from petrol to diesel?

basically I have a golf td engine and rumour over on the VZi vine is that I may get the DVLA being funny about me changing my engine as I am changing the engine number/fuel type?

I really dont want to cause any headaches!

I dont remember having any trouble-I dont think I even told them! If Iremeber corectly my insurance company informed them and then the dvla sent me a form to fill in.

Well the insurance company know, the DVLA dont, I need to change my log book as my van is a different colour and has a different engine, but if I change that lot at once I think they might have a fit (they seem to have a fit at anything these days)

before last june/july 08 it was easy now they need a letter/receipt on headed paper from the supplier and or installer with the changes and specification or an AA/RAC or VOSA inspection.
our other car was 1300 to 1600 conversion before we got it, after messing about with DVLA it is still a 1300 but correctly insured.

So what the hell are you supposed to do if you do it yourself? just not tell them?

Engine conversions/swaps are fairly common!

My dad has suggested filling in the logbook and sending it back and seeing what happens, then when they get funny take it up with the local MP who has to head it up to government to make a change or do whatever.

I'm wondering how much trouble this could cause?

Obviously I am wondering what everyone else does? as a collective obviously we need to come up with a plan if its going to be that much of a pain!

A mate at work just filled in the V5 and sent it to them when he changed his buggy from a 1600 to a 1915. The contacted him and said he had done all the work himself, he could take a picture if they wanted, they said don't worry an increase in capacity doesn't really matter, its only reduction in capacity.

i sent my logbook back to the dvla last year on the tdi bay with new engine number, capacity and fuel type and they wanted a headed receipt for engine or engine install receipt from a garage

the only problem then was they lost the lot in a filing tray!!, ended up having to get new docs and resending. a real pain if you dont send it all at the same time

long shot but maybee contact the seller ask for a receipt with engine no on? i would think they are more interested in matching eng nos to chassis, or a tax increase more than safety, or who fitted it, the mot is supposed to take care of that.

or the other option of an "inspection report for insurance purposes" i would assume is a valuation stating chassis and eng no on one a report from an independant source.

as for fuel type it reads as vehicle registered after 2001 so guess that wouldnt matter.
