I did some hack and slash on my alternator bracket today. It went very smoothly, and took hardly any time at all:
All i did was lop off the ac compressor mounting bosses and trimmed the supporting metal down and away a bit. I then simply took the power steering belt tensioner off, turned it around, then trimmed the mounting bosses down about a quarter inch (a cm maybe?). The tensioner needs to be aligned a little better, but this gets the idea across pretty good. I don't know if this will work or not as im not sure what the clearances around the intake and throttle body are, but i did make sure that the smaller power steering belt does actually fit the alternator pulley, even though the pulley is for a larger belt. I dont know what slippage will be like either, if any.
Re-looking at the pictures i think i might try something silly. I might try filling in the ribs on the tensioner with epoxy, sanding it smooth, then using the tensioner as a backwards tensioner with the back of the serpentine belt riding on the tensioner instead of trying to get all the ribs lined up, and possibly losing alot of contact area. I think with a backwards tensioner type i might get alot more contact area on the alternator pulley. Hmmmm, i'll have to check that out. |
